Podium says why. There are only two reasons it refuses to score a whole race, and it prints the one that applies.
"No gun has been set for this race, so nothing can be timed."
Set the start time. Every elapsed time is measured from it, so without one there is nothing to measure from.

Save. - Podium Mobile: the gun comes down with the field from the timing server. If the event has a wave start it is already there.
"No finish has been named, so nothing can be scored."
Tell Podium which mat is the finish. It will not guess, because guessing wrongly gives everyone the time they reached a drinks station.

Save. - Podium Mobile: it asks the first time you pick a race, and only offers points that have actually taken reads.
The name has to match the point on the box card exactly. A finish typed slightly differently from the name on the reads matches nothing and scores nobody, and it looks exactly like a mat that did not work.
