The same people,
since 2001.

Timing hardware designed, built and supported in one building in Western Australia — and we still answer the phone ourselves.

Perth, Western Australia · around 2,000 units in the field, on every continent

How it started

It started with a triathlon club

The first real RFID work was a winter spent redesigning Triathlon WA's timing system. Orders for the hardware started arriving from other countries before there was a company to put on the invoice, and RFID Race Timing Systems was registered in 2003.

Every generation of hardware we have built since is in the list below, and the job has not changed: build the box, sell it to whoever wants it, and do not tell them what to do with it.

What we have built

Every system we have built

Every one of these was designed, built and supported by the same people. The last two are why this site was rebuilt.

Early 2001

Started in a garage

Timing hardware built at home as a hobby. The orders arrived before the company did.

May 2001

First dabble in RFID

A winter project spent redesigning Triathlon WA's timing system.

May 2003

First 134 kHz system

The Dual Antenna System, and the year the company was formally registered.

October 2006

HDD system

High Density Digital at 134 kHz, built for high volume chip reads.

October 2010

First Ultra system

Our first system on UHF Gen 2 tags, which debuted at the Melbourne Marathon.

March 2017

Joey

A low cost, easy to use UHF system aimed at clubs and small operators.

June 2024

EchoActive

Development completed on our first active transponder system — five millisecond precision, eighty reads a second, and a transponder that carries its own times.

2025

EchoActive Plus

Active transponders and passive UHF chips read by the same box, at the same time, on the same clock. One timing point instead of two systems.

2026 · now

Podium

Cloud timing built around the hardware — entries, live results and prize giving while the event is still on the course. The newest thing we make.

How we work

One building, start to finish

Design, electronics, manufacturing, testing and support all happen in the same place in O'Connor. Nothing is assembled to a specification and shipped on by somebody who has never seen a finish line.

We design it

Boards, firmware and enclosures. The people who wrote the firmware are the people who answer the phone about it.

We build it

A custom manufacturing workshop and electronics laboratory, in the same building as the office. Quality control is somebody walking twenty feet.

We support it

Every manual and firmware release is open to anybody, with no account and no serial number. Firmware is free for the life of the product.

We do not lock you in

No mandated chips, no mandated software, no contracts. That has been true since 2001 and it is the thing we are least likely to change.

We ship worldwide

Our systems are in use on every continent, from the Polar Circle Marathon in Greenland to the Redback Enduro in the Great Sandy Desert.

Club to city marathon

The same hardware times a forty-entrant club handicap and a thirty-thousand runner road race. Only the quantity changes.

Come and have a look

If you are in Perth you are welcome to come and see where it is made. If you are not, everything we know is on this site — the manuals, the firmware, the prices and a tool that will size a system for you.
